He conquered Gaul and invaded Britain in 55 BC. He crossed the river Rubicon instigating the civil war with Consul Pompey who he defeated at Pharsalus in 48 BC. Caesar was made perpetual dictator of Rome which lead to his murder in the senate on 15th March 44 BC (The Ides of March).
