The Insider is the new Editorial Format for Slitherine's website, a way to share with you interviews with our developers and with the people working with us and to give you insights about our games.
We start this format today with an article centered on Master of Magic.
We have organized an Ask Me Anything with Mila, from MuHa Games (developers of Master of Magic) on Reddit and we have selected some questions and answers that may be interesting for you.
If you have other questions you want an answer to, check our other Editorial format: Letters to Slitherine.
What changed in MoM since its launch in December 2022?
We have at least 7 updates since the launch, and within those updates we added over 40 new functions and features, and even more modifications to existing content and mechanics. These include many QOL changes, like faster loading times, UI improvements with many added popups and toggles, map edge scrolling or faster animations in battle. Features like the cartographer mode, which allow you to see the whole world map. Setting options, like remappable hotkeys or greater customization of the gameplay like a number of neutral cities. We also worked on expanding modding capabilities, and although there is more to come in that area, we have added options for modding 2d images and we made the dev menu accessible to our players.
On top of that, we had the large free content update Through The Myrror, which actually adds new Wizards, a new race, some new heroes, units, skills and traits.
And finally, of course we continue to work on fixes for Master of Magic, so with every update we try to iron out any remaining glitches and errors that occur.
Have you already planned a Roadmap?
A short, ‘Spring to Summer’ roadmap includes:
So those are the areas that we are either currently working on or things we are planning to address in the very near future. Our focus on Steam Workshop comes as part of our overall drive to make the game as modder friendly as we can, as we believe that the Master of Magic modding community is really great and they deserve good tools.
Do any of the Muha people play TTRPGs like D&D?
Yes we do, in fact, TTRPGs are what made us a team in the first place ;) Khash has been running various campaigns for some of us weekly, for way over a decade now.
Once the Wizard-queen of the goblin empire casts the spell of mastery and ascends, what will be their first decree to their conquered subjects?
Considering what we now know goblins like to do, the answer is R rated so can't say :P
I noticed that a certain Chaos Warrior made a cameo in Thea 2. Are there any easter eggs in MoM that you want to share with us?
There are some yes, but those things need to be discovered naturally, else they don't work, right? The original game is filled with characters and names taken from all over pop culture/legend etc. and I try to continue the trend when adding new content. As an example, you mentioned the goblin wizard, her name is the name of an actual Irish druid.
Other than the klackons do you have a favorite bug from your time making the game?
I am afraid I can't recall any that I can call favorites, in fact, I think my brain is just refusing to cooperate due to bug trauma ;)
